INPIRG is an independent, student-directed, nonprofit organization, originally founded in the 1970’s by Indiana students. INPIRG was re-established in 1997 by students here in Bloomington so they could have a vehicle to work on issues that they care about like protecting the environment, standing up for their rights as consumers and as students, and making a difference in the local community through service and education about hunger and homelessness.

Over the years, INPIRG has registered thousands of IU students to vote, raised more than $20,000 for hunger & homelessness relief, and has trained more than 200 interns to work on important social issues! INPIRG’s DC-based staff (shared with other PIRGs) have been instrumental in passing SAFRA, Credit Card and Banking Reform, and protecting the environment.

Moving forward, the students in INPIRG have big plans. We are currently working on increasing sustainability and engergy efficiency, fighting hunger and homelessness, working to end wasteful government subsidies for junk food, educating students to make them more effective consumers, lowering the cost of textbooks, and reducing the influence of money in politics. We hope you will join us!
